Wedding FAQ's

What preparations do you make before the wedding?
About 1 to 2 months before your wedding we will meet for a pre-wedding shoot, which will ideally be at your wedding venue. It can help to dispel any fears of having your photo taken so you are nice and relaxed on the day. We can also go over the schedule for the day and any formal photography you require.

Do you take formal and group shots?
Although my style is to blend in I do allow for more traditional images.
I would advise 20 minutes worth of 5-6 group formals. They can be very time consuming and eat into your couple shots.

Do you take couple shots?
I will take the bride and groom away for some romantic lightly directed portraits. I try to use the best of the surrounding environment, both indoors and outdoors of your chosen venue to capture some special moments between you both.

How much time do you spend on the couple shots?
This is up to you but I would suggest giving plenty of time if these shots are of particularly importance to you. Please discuss any of your photography ideas with me before the final schedule of the venue is complete, to avoid any disappointments.

How do we book you?
In order to secure your wedding date you will need to complete a wedding booking form, which I will provide you, and pay the booking fee by either, cash or cheque.

What happens to the images after the wedding?
We pick the best and edit them. If your wedding package includes a book/album we willput the images into a layout for you to view.

How long after the wedding do we see the images?
Within a month you will receive your DVDs and a password to your own personal online gallery, where you can send links to friends and family. Depending on which package you have chosen you will get a pdf of you album design to check over or your digital images on disk.

Are you insured?
Yes. I have full insurance for both public liability and professional indemnity.

Portrait studio FAQ's

How long is the photoshoot?
The studio shoot is 1 hour long. We are flexible so we will usually shoot until we get what we want. As for baby shoots, we know that they need to eat and sleep so we will work around you and your baby.

What to wear

You can wear what you like but try to avoid plain white clothes as you might end up looking like just a floating head!! Bright clothes are great and anything that's got texture or bold patterns. Jeans always look good and any accessories like sunglasses, hats, favourite toys for the kids or even props like musical instruments or giant inflatable hammers?!?...... it's up to you!

When will we get to see the photos?
We normally say about 14 days untill your images are ready, you will recive a dvd slideshow and a password for your online gallery. There is then the oportunity to look at the frame samples, portrait books and other products before you place your order.

Who owns the copyright on the images?
Jake Hilder Photography retains the copyright to all images produced during your photoshoot.

How many people can we bring for a studio shoot?
The maximum people we can manage in the studio is about six or seven. If you have a big group maybe an Out & about shoot would be ideal for you.

I am nervous about having my photo taken?
It is really important to me that everyone has fun on the photoshoot. I will do my best to capture the true personality of you and your family.

Portrait out & about FAQ's

Can the shoot be outdoors?
Yes, the shoot can take place in your garden, local park, woods, fields or anywhere really. The bigger the variety of backgrounds and textures the more dynamic the photographs.

Where is best?
Anywhere with colour, texture and interesting backdrops. If you are struggling with a venue we can make some local suggestions. We can start in your house and then go somewhere local this will help get alarger varity of shots

How long is the photoshoot?
I try to keep the shoot to 2 hours but we are very flexible so we will usually shoot until we get what we want.

It's worth having a think about where your shoot is going to take place and what time of year etc. so for example if its autumn and you're having some shots in the woods, then it would probably be best to wear more natural colours to compliment the surroundings, colours like browns, yellows and greens. On the other hand if the shoot was summer on the beach or in the local park, then any bright colours with sunglasses etc.

What if the weather is bad on the day of our shoot?
I am quite happy to reschedule in the case of rubbish weather.

baby bundle FAQ's

When to do newborn photographs?
We recommend that newborn shoot is best to take place within the first three weeks, as they grow and change very quickly. You don't want to miss those moments when they are at their tiniest and sleeping all curled up and snug.... and did I mention sleeping?

The newborn photoshoot?
To keep the baby comfortable warm and with everything to hand, it is usually best if the first shoot takes place at your home. As well as having the baby's clothes, food, blankets and toys all there ready to go, you will also get lovely images of your baby in their own surroundings making the images a lot more personal. As every baby is totally different in mood and behaviour, there is only a certain amount of planning that you can do. So we are very flexible with time for feeds, cuddles, smelly nappies etc. To get the natural feel of a newborn baby we will try to photograph them in their birthday suit whether wrapped in a big soft blanket, or just having a nice cuddle by you or your partner. We welcome any of your own ideas and are very flexible to suit your needs, as this is your photo shoot after all.

Why choose the baby bundle photoshoot?
The Baby Bundle is a great way to capture and record the first years of your child’s life. From those magic moments of their first few weeks of life, through to them smiling and crawling and eventually walking, talking... oh and climbing!

The Bundle consists of three photo shoots. The first will be a newborn session and then your choice of when and where the next two will take place. You might want to have the second in the studio just after they have started crawling and playing with favourite toys. The third could be of your child now fully mobile, running and climbing around your house and garden. The choice is yours.
